Riyadh – Mubasher: Total cost of Al-Haramain High-Speed Rail project has exceeded SAR 60 billion, former director general of the project Bassam Ghulman said during a lecture at Umm Al-Qura University (UQU).

More than 60 million cubic metres of digging work has been completed, in addition to implementing and supplying 35 electric trains, Ghulman added.

He also highlighted that the entire route has been completed along 450 kilometres that links Makkah to Madinah through Jeddah and Rabigh, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The project’s construction work included designing and executing four railway stations in each of Makkah, Jeddah, King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh, and Madinah, in addition to a station in King Abdulaziz International Airport.

In January, Saudi Railway Company (SAR) announced that it is ready to commercially operate Al-Haramain express train after launching the first pilot trip from Jeddah to Makkah last October.
